How to choose ?

What Media BOX is best for me?

Article Written & updated October 10th, 2017

When it comes to streaming Media boxes there are many to choose from and can vary wildly in hardware.

They should have at least the basic specifications to run all the latest software and apps available for download, but ideally faster.

In 2018 the minimum hardware specification for a Media box will be at least 1GB RAM and a S905 CPU or better. Just like a computer system you will be upgrading usually every 3 to 4 years, that doesn’t mean your Media Box is useless it just means there will become a time where your Media Box will not function well with newer larger and more complicated software but you can still use it with old software. Just like windows 95 software will still work on an older slower computer but you can’t install windows 10 on a really old one because you will not have enough system resources to run it. Get the idea? Great, let’s move on!

1.) Ask yourself a question, “Have I ever used an android phone or device before?”

a.) If you answer is yes and you like to keep ahead of the latest tech out there we would suggest purchasing a higher quality box that can handle the software that’s available today and for a few years to come. (1/G – 8/G)  AMLOGIC 905 specs are a great unit to start with.

b.) If your answer is “NO” you may want to stick with an entry level box that has the min requirements to use the current software available. This way you’re not spending a larger amount of money on something you’re not sure about and to see what your actual needs are, ie: 16 or 32/GB of storage space for all your favorite apps, videos, games and movies.

As of October 10th , 2017 The current Memory specs that are the best are 1 to 3/GB of ddr3 or ddr4 system memory and 8, 16 or 32/GB of storage. Personally I just plug in my 128GB USB Drive.

Remember you can always purchase a USB, flashHDD drive or external hard drive to the device, just make sure your device can support the size of USB or hard drive your wanting to connect also if you have your device connected to a network and you are an advanced user you can store data in a folder on a shared network drive.

Still Confused? , my suggestion is to send us an e mail or text and we can offer some suggestions. You don’t have to buy one of our Media boxes for us to help you find out what would best fit your needs.

In short, a very safe Media Box set up would come with a 1/G – 8/G AMLOGIC 905,905X or 912 or for non gaming a ROCKCHIP processors with 2.4 and 5GHZ Wi-Fi. NOTE: 1/G systems don’t have a 5GHZ Wi-Fi option. The current android systems are 5.1 Lollipop and 6.0 Marshmallow  & the latest is 7.0 Nougat.
